The Board of Missions and Social Action has two main objectives:
(1) provide goods and services to those in need both here and abroad.
(2) address the underlying social issues which contribute to the creation of the less fortunate both here and abroad.

In providing goods and services, the Board does the following during the course of the year:

  • Friendship Center – A soup kitchen in New Britain. We prepare beef stew following worship on the 3rd Sunday of each month. It is then delivered to them to serve to their clients.

  • Hands on Hartford—A social service, nonprofit organization that serves Hartford’s neediest residents. We cook and serve a meal on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at noon.

  • Newington Food Pantry—We have an ongoing collection of non-perishable food in the Coat Room. Food can be dropped off at anytime and is delivered to Human Services.

  • Family Promise—We are a new affiliate of faith organizations working together, whose mission is to help homeless and low-income families sustain independence. We are looking for volunteers to help when we host families overnight.

  • Interval House — A shelter for battered women. On an ongoing basis, we collect items in the Coat Room and deliver them.

  • Sleep-Out for the Homeless—Our youth groups spend an overnight sleeping outside during winter in cardboard boxes to raise awareness and funds for the plight of the homeless.

Global Missions

  • St. Vincent’s Center— For disabled children of Haiti. We provide scholarships to students and donate money to help supply their food.

  • Neighbors In Need and One Great Hour of Sharing
